La Lumière (for La Chronique, Amnesty International - with journalist Sophie Boutboul)
Located in Kedougou, Eastern Sénégal, La Lumière ("light" in french) is a temporary shelter center for kids who used to work in illegal gold mines. Boys and girls of La Lumière are mainly from Sénégal neighboring countries (Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea etc.) making it particularly tricky for La Lumière's staff, along with Sénégal Department of Justice, to send these isolated kids back to their relatives or home countries. Meanwhile, the organization focusses on taking kids away from gold mines and their hazardous environments and provides them with access to basic care and safety as well as education.
